Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status with his folk-based pop songs most of which were based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born Henry John Germandorf at Roswell located in the state of New Mexico, fell in Love with Colorado. He moved to Aspen. Denver's state anthems inspired many to visit Colorado. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated the following: John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever to be inducted. Today he personifies the state for people worldwide. Certainly in my travels you come across someone on the opposite side of the world one who is from New Zealand and you say 'I'm originally from Colorado and the very first thing that comes out of their mouth is"Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief time with folk bands which was Denver's first Top 10 solo hit. Danoff composed the tune for Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the potential of the single when he first heard it. The song was recorded within a couple of days of performing in Washington D.C. before an audience that was very enthusiastic.
